Holistic Rehabilitation for Severe Multi-Trauma: A Case Study of Comprehensive Physiotherapy Interventions in Complex Injuries
Main Article Content
Abstract
This case report details the management and rehabilitation of a 37-year-old male who sustained multiple severe injuries from a motorcycle collision, including a compound Grade III B supracondylar femur fracture, a proximal phalanx fracture, left-sided hemopneumothorax, rib fractures, and a brachial plexus injury. Initial treatment involved surgical intervention for the femur fracture followed by a comprehensive physiotherapy regimen addressing pain management, range of motion, strength, and functional recovery across all injury sites. Key interventions included cryotherapy, myofascial release, passive and active range of motion exercises, and neuromuscular re-education. Progress was evaluated through functional scales and range of motion assessments, showing significant improvements in pain levels, muscle strength, and functional independence over 31 days of therapy. This case highlights the importance of an integrated rehabilitation approach to optimize recovery outcomes for complex multi-trauma patients.
